Everything you need to know about the 2025 Broome Cup

Regarding the social calendar, the Broome Cup is the event everyone awaits. A significant attraction for trainers and horses, it’s the star of Broome’s winter racing season and a popular event for locals and out-of-town guests alike that draws punters from all over the state and the country.
A day at the Broome Cup is a day to remember. There’s plenty to do, from watching the races to on-course activities extending through the afternoon and evening. The Kimberley dry season’s perfect warm, balmy weather makes for a magical night.
Broome Cup is a chance for trainers to win up to $100,000 across the 2200m distance and is open to horses aged three years and older, run under handicap conditions.
Where is the Broome Cup held?
The Broome Cup is held yearly at the Broome Turf Club, which has been around in an official capacity since 1894. Anecdotal evidence suggests horse racing was held in Broome before this date.
The track on which the Broome Cup is held wasn’t always at its current location. The original site was closer to town, where the airport is today. However, in the 1940s, the new location was identified as the preferred spot, with the current track carved into bushland at Gantheaume Point.
It’s a literal stone’s throw from the sparkling blue Indian Ocean on both sides and within walking distance of the world-famous Gantheaume Point. And given its prominent location, it gets cooled by breezes directed from the ocean—a welcome change as the action heats up on the track.

The Broome Turf Club is fiercely proud of its enviable location. Multiple attempts have been to resume the land for tourism developments, but the Club resisted each time.
